We come to this hotel fairly often and each time we have a fantastic time. The food is top quality and the rooms spacious. Would recommend this hotel to anyone

    AVOID THIS HOTEL IF POSSIBLE.

    Issues we had:
    - We were told at time of booking by the ‘reservations team’ that full payment would be taken immediately for the wedding night discount rate. We re-checked upon check in that their system showed that this had been paid and a member of reception staff confirmed this. It was only upon checkout that the same staff member told us that they had never taken the payment and that we needed to pay and unexpected amount extra. If the staff member had not miss-led us on arrival we could have resolved this during our stay, rather than being faced with an unexpected situation whilst trying to check out and verify this on our on-line banking. There was no compensation for the massive inconvenience this caused and the many emails which ensued, and although the hotel accepted responsibility for the error there was no goodwill from the manager Mark Payne or compensation for the stress this caused. He was adamant no compensation was due and thus showed no regard for customer satisfaction or care. Perhaps he knows there are enough weddings happening that they don’t need to retain repeat customers?

    - The sofa bed was broken upon arrival and our daughter had to sleep on a thin mattress on the floor the first night (the type designed to go on top of a sprung base not a hard floor).

    - The shower head holder was broken upon arrival and not fixed. We were even told later that we hadn’t reported it when I heard my husband tell a member of the reception team on our first morning.

    - The general experience of the staff and internal rooms was average. We would most likely have experienced more friendliness from somewhere like a Premier Inn. Not what one expects from a £200+ a night hotel. The only reason I can think for them getting away with this massive price without the customer service to match, is that it is a beautiful building and that as a wedding venue they have a captive market.

    - In general we were disappointed with the hotel staff, room and the breakfast was nothing to write home about. We had to prompt the waitress to check with the chef after her initial response to our chaser on our order of poached eggs was to shrug her shoulders. They arrived about 15 minutes later (all the little things add up). The only good thing was being on site for our friends wedding without the travel. Unless you are attending a wedding at the venue then I would steer clear.

    More like a 2 star not a 4 star.

Ps. if you look on trip advisor then you will see many people with similar experiences. I wish we had looked there...

Lovely hotel. The room we were in had been recently refurbished, to a very high standard. Friendly staff, and an amazing breakfast. As always with hotels, the bar prices are crazy!
